IGN hit with layoffs, 1UP.com and Gamespy.com closing down

Earlier this month Ziff Davis, a subsidiary of j2 Global, purchased gaming news giant IGN, and with new ownership comes change, and sometimes the change is not always positive, this announcement is a clear example of that and is something that will not go down well with loyal users of IGN’s sister gaming websites, is this announcement something that will put the new management of IGN down in the bad books with its users?

Subsidiaries of IGN, 1UP.com and Gamespy.com, have been announced to be closing down, the reason for this act is given by a company spokesperson. “We are focusing on our two flagship brands, IGN and AskMen. Unfortunately, as a result, we have made the decision to close sites and restructure our teams accordingly.”
